Dental coverage

My dentist had performed two crowns.Upon completion the claim was denied by Delta Dental.I had contacted customer service to no avail .My dentist then resubmitted the claim and spoke to a supervisor, but they still denied the claim.I had crowns done in the past with previous insurers and was always covered.I had contacted my benefits mgr. and had made them aware of my unhappiness with Delta Dental and their customer service.

The only reason I bought their plan was because of the discount applied to the claims. If your dentist gives a cash discount you may be better off to put away the money you paid for premiums as the maximum you can spend in 1 year is probably only 1000.00 if you are buying this plan privately-the only winners are those you get insurance through their employers.

I would look at Physicians Mutual there is no yearly limit but still waiting periods. Cheaper premiums, but pay less.

P.S. I am a dental manager

I’m very disgusted with Delta Dental. When I signed up, I was told crowns were covered at 50 percent. They neglected to tell me, that wasn’t until the second year of coverage. I specifically asked if crowns were immediately covered and they assured me they were. Now I’m out almost $1,000. They also didn’t cover my deep cleaning, something most older patients need. This is a terrible policy for AARP to be offering. I feel ripped off.

I just received AARP post card in regard to Delta Dental. I can't believe they would promote this company to it's members. Thanks for your review.

BIG SCAM

Delta Dental is absolutely the very worst company for customer service. They intentionally have bad customer service when you wish to cancel your account.

Not only do they provide next to nothing in coverage (you can actually get similar discounts from dentists if you pay by cash or check and tell your dentist that you don't have insurance), but Delta Dental makes it extremely difficult to cancel your account. THIS IS INTENTIONAL!!! The strategy is one in which that they believe the more they frustrate you the more likely you will give up and continue the account.

I cancelled my account a year ago and a year later I am receiving notices that they are going to Auto-deduct my account for the new enrollment period. This despite the fact that I discontinued my account a year ago.

When you try to call them, they transfer you to a department which never picks up the line.

I was left on hold for well over an hour and no one picked up. If you pay by credit card the only way you can discontinue your account with them is by discontinuing your credit card.

DO NOT, NEVER, SUBSCRIBE TO THIS SLEAZY COMPANY!!!!!

Yeah, Delta Dental told me to send a written letter to them to cancel the dental insurance & I did on December 4th. 7 days later they sent me an email that sounded like they were still going to charge me for the start of the next year in the final week of December anyway.

And they also had the nerve to accidentally bill me on December 10th, 2 weeks earlier than they normally do. Now, I am going to have to call them to verify they got my letter, and to make sure my policy is cancelled without doubt.

I signed up with Delta Dental for insurance. I received no dental cards and I did not use their service. They billed me and I did not send in a payment. This home office in Indiana debited my card for $90 which was not authorized. I called to get a refund with no success and I have reported this company to several agencies . This company Customer Service is very poor in dealing with people.

Even tho you made a huge error by giving them---or anyone your debit card instead of a credit card you can still dispute the debit with your card issuer. The problem, of course is that they have your money and the dispute process with a debit card is much longer, with varying results---you may or may not get your money back in some distant future.

Using a debit card anywhere, locally or online is a very dangerous thing to do.

Now you know. Websites like to get your card info soon after you visit them in order to do just what happened to you.

Costs extra to stop a Scam

After reading an advertisement online, I called a number and signed for an individual policy with Delta Dental Insurance of Oklahoma and agreed for them to take monthly charges from my bank account. About a year later, I decided to take Delta Dental insurance through my work. It was also called Delta Dental of Oklahoma. So I figured they would cancel my individual policy. But Delta Dental Premium Ins kept charging my bank account. I didn't notice that for a long time, which is, of course, is my fault. However, when my dentist checked for me, the only active Delta Dental account was from my work. Since it was a benefit from my work, I was not supposed to be charged directly for that. So I called Delta Dental of Oklahoma and was told they had nothing to do with whoever was taking the money from my account. And they had no record of me ever having an individual policy with them. They were pretty unresponsive to the notion that somebody might be using their name to scam people for money. They said there was nothing more they can do. I don't know, if somebody was using my name to scam people for money, I am not sure I would consider that "not my problem" since it would be my reputation at stake. But I guess we don't care about reputations in our society anymore. My bank was willing to stop the payments on our end to "Delta Dental Premium Ins" but they had no information on how to contact these people so there is nothing I can do to ask for my money back.....and....just one more little bite....the bank charged me 35 bucks just to put a stop on those payments. Sheesh.

Have ALL procedures approved by Delta Dental to assure payment of benifits

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After a cleaning in October 2018 some decay was found on a tooth that supported a crown. The crown consisted of 3 teeth filling a space for a front tooth that was missing. This crown was about 35 years old. The existing crown was removed, the decay was repaired and there was a build up on the affected tooth. A new crown was placed and all was fine. The old crown was damaged to remove it. The claim was submitted and when the EOB was received I found that Delta Dental decided I did not need a crown and I should have had a removable appliance, because the appliance cost less. Delta Dental pays 50%. Delta Dental paid the 50% on the build up on the repaired tooth which would have to be pulled to do a removable appliance. A reasonable person could see that it would cost the same or more to make a removable appliance than to just replace the existing crown. I filed a review with Delta Dental which was denied. I then filed a review with the Missouri Department of Insurance. They agreed with Delta Dental, Crown claim denied . Delta dental paid the 50% of the removal appliance which they deemed the lesser cost and refused to pay the 50% of a crown. Beware, if you have any procedure over $200 you need to contact Delta Dental so they can decide what procedure is best for you. So your benefits will be paid in full.

Delta Dental could care less about what is best for your dental health. I found myself in the same situation.

These people think they are the experts and more qualified than a dentist. Nothing is going to change until employees begin complaining to their employers and begin to opt out from purchasing delta dental insurance from these bandits.

I too am beginning to run into difficulties with Delta Dental denying payment on a straight forward claim. They reference exclusion terms which are not part of the plan/contract; when you request a copy of the referenced exclusion terms they state you need to contact your broker, which if fact is their billing agent "Morgan White".

Most probably the best solution is to seek insurance elsewhere and file a breach of contract lawsuit.

Although the disputed amount is only in the hundreds it appears Delta Dental has a long reputation for unsavory business practices and an inclusion of punitive damages in the amount of $5 - $10K might send them a wake up call. Did you file a breach of contract lawsuit?

Had coverage through the exchange after my husband lost his job. I thought it had been cancelled when the credit card I had used was closed. (It was apparently on another card.) Husband got a new job with Delta coverage. They kept charging my card for months, so we were double paying for the same Delta plan. They don’t have anyway of cross-checking the SS # to prevent this? No, they don’t (& refuse to issue a refund, crooks!)

Your mistake in not scrutinizing your monthly statements. You apparently didn't bother to peruse the medical info your hubby got when getting the new job to see what was covered, etc.

This is how we learn fiscal responsibility.

Consumer Fraud by Delta Dental

Delta Dental of NJ Delta Dental of Wisconsin Extended a one year policy for an additional year without authorization Stevens Point Wisconsin Effective 1/01/17 (by telephone) I arranged for a one year dental insurance policy for my son, with payment of $49 to be deducted from my VISA account each month. DO NOT EVER AGREE TO THIS, BY THE WAY. The plan was for ONE YEAR and was to expire on 12/31/17. Those were the terms we agreed to as covered in the agreement to buy the plan. However, despite the expiration date, Delta Dental was still taking $49 from my Visa account which I noticed in February of 2018. I called to cancel, but despite the fact that I had personally arranged for the policy for my son -- and that the payments for the dental plan were being taken from my Visa account -- they refused to allow me to cancel by telephone. We did follow with a letter from my son stating that there was no renewal of the policy requested by him or myself and that the policy should have expired automatically on 12/31/17. The letters -- from myself and my son -- were directed to Delta Dental NJ, but the reply came from Delta Dental Wisconsin. The reply did not even give the courtesy of an individual's name -- simply Delta Dental WI. And the reply simply referred to a new policy they insist now runs from 1/01/18 to 1/31/18. In telephone exchange today they suggested that they had authority to continue the policy. Since my son gave no such authority, nor did I, we requested they send us what they considered authorization. Sadly, I did not check Delta Dental reviews on the internet before I arranged for the original policy. Had I seen the reviews which show outrageously poor performance in honoring the "plans" they sell -- and in deceptive business practices, I would never had done business with them at all. Delta Dental lies to customers about their "plans" and about expiration dates. There are in fact EXPIRATION dates on their policies, but they are automatically renewing the policies for an additional year. Other customers have also reported this Consumer Fraud in automatic renewals of policies without permission or authority to do so. This is a scam -- and if you've had a similar experience with Delta Dental, please also write Sen. Bernie Sanders, Washington, DC to let him know. Sen. Sanders has been tracking what has been happening in the "health/medical" field for quite some time. I will, of course, be writing to him about this deception and encouraging him to take action to prevent this from happening to anyone else. DO NOT give anyone permission to take money directly from your VISA account or any other account.

"Breach of Contract" regarding Price of Dental Charges

07/12/2018 I chose Royalty Dental Associates Clinic which my first visit was around July 2017. My Dental X-rays was done on 08/02/2017 in which Dr. Hamada agree that I need upper and lower partial's..The total charge he gave me along with lab fees for Plastic Partial would cost $2,400.00 for Metal Partial and $1,335.00 for hard plastic partials . According to my insurance Delta Dental the plastic partial should have only cost for top $ 415.00 and bottom partials $415.00 , I was also told by Debbie in customer service with Delta Dental their should be no lab fees charges to make the partials. Dr. Hamada said there is a lab fee charge. I was told by Debbie and her supervisor Eva to go to another Dentist. My response was for them to send me their discloser of the arrangement with the dentist, in which this was never given. I told Debbie it is not the patient responsibility to resolve this Breach of Contract., and referring me to another clinic is not going to resolve this problem. In other words I paid for Insurance I couldn't use. I want to be reimbursed for money Paid for coverage of insurance. luewash@***.com

This is from California. DeltaDentalins web site is the least user friendly and beneficial.

The benefits coverage document is never listed in the documents, go figure! Twice called to have and rep said it would be mailed to me and, nothing. Third time called and the dude was, "sure thing, I will email it", and there it was! Why isn't it on the web site in my account?

The claim I filed with delta last year because after I got the benefits info, I saw the dentist was charging me for treatment that was covered and "no charge". Delta never followed up with me on the claim, and it doesn't show up on my account claims.

Worse ever! Just need to stay on top of them and take my benefits coverage document with me to corroborate what the dentist is charging me against the benefits stated.

Rip-Off for Senior Citizens

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I maintained a Delta dental policy for many years. When AARP offered a Delta dental policy -- I switched over to their delta dental insurance.

I had no lapse in insurance at any time.

I was not told that I was giving away all my benefits for a year on the aarp policy. I was advised as to how to cancel my payments on the original policy I had.

They took two months payments on 6/13/17 for a policy that started 8/1/17. A month later I received the "handbook" that mentions the years delay in receiving benefits.

The woman in the grievance department is rude and hung up on me -- Delta dental is a rip-off.

You gotta read what you are signing up for. Dental insurance can be tricky and most do have a waiting time until your coverage goes into effect, etc.

Anything connected with AARP should be looked at closely. They make alot of money selling all kinds of insurance to gullible seniors.

Going from Delta dental insurance to AARP Delta dental insurance I made a bad assumption that since the change was within the same company -- there would be no interruptions in payments or services.Glad auto, home, and health insurance does not have you wait for a year to be covered.I would not consider myself gullible -- but this situation proves me wrong.

WORST insurance on the market!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Delta Dental must be paying off some MAJOR advertising companies to get them rated 5 stars online!!!! This company is THE WORST!!!!

Unfortunately my employer has this scam company for their benefits program, and the employees HATE it! ALL of the employees!!!! Delta doesn't cover much of anything and they pay next to nothing on procedures that all the other dental insurance companies pay most of! My last two dental visits consisted of cleanings and one cavity filled.

Delta paid like 40% of it, whereas most dental insurance companies pay 80%-100%!!!!! They even sent me a BILL for what they didn't cover, and I was shocked I got a bill for BASIC SERVICES!!! I went up to talk to my dentists billing person and she said I shouldn't be paying out of pocket for ANYTHING for the services they gave. She never heard of anybody getting a BILL for any part of basic services!!!

She told me that the company was trying to scam me out of money for procedures that are always written off by EVERY dentist's billing office! She told me I don't owe them anything, as my dentist had already written that particular procedure off, and the company was just trying to scam me into paying them money that had been written off. And I not only got ONE bill for the first visit, I got ANOTHER BILL for the second visit!!!!! Delta Dental are FRAUDS, LIARS, CHEATS, and CORRUPT!!!!

If your company offers them, DONT GET IT!!! It is SAFER and less of a migraine on your part to get your own private insurance!!!!

Delta Dental is the worst... The company has maintained the same "cap" on procedures even as the cost of procedures has skyrocketed...

They required the dentist to submit in writing via regular mail any claims...

then "lose" the claim to postpone payment... This week when I decided to cancel the policy, I was informed that they would not allow it (no seriously), telling me that I needed an "underlying cause" and in any case would not cancel the policy until the end of the year (and I've been with them for ten years) ...Anyone considering dental coverage should consider a payment plan through their dentist, or other methods to pay for procedures....anyone but Delta Insurance!

Patient Care Coordinator Dental Office

After explaining to a Delta Dental Rep on the phone that it just took me 25 minutes to find our which Delta dental (state) covered our patient, I asked simply for 4 questions to be answered. She refused and referred me back to the automatic system for a fax. This is very poor patient service! The patient is in the office waiting to see how what percentage his crown will be covered! He asked me to complain about how much of the Dentist time you are wasting, I obliged. How hard is it to answer a few questions. I called back and they pretended there were no Managers to speak to at all.

Delta Dental of Michigan is a horribly run company. "We are experiencing longer than usual hold times, we apologize for any inconvenience.." This is the second time I had to call Delta Dental of MI - this time my dentists office called to say Delta told them to have me call them. Does that make sense? Could they not pick up the phone? I knew right away I was in for another nightmare. The first call took 16 minutes and 11 seconds to get a representative then the call was dropped. Now 11 minutes into my second call. Between calls I called Laura Czelada's number the COO who is soon to become the President and CFO in MI. Guess what they close at 4:30 PM. I left a message and for her assistant Mary. Delta without permission extended a 1 yr policy to 2 yrs.

Delta Dental is a fraud -- DO NOT permit them to take money each month from your credit card account, or by any other means. We had a policy with Delta Dental which was effective 1/01/17 to 12/31/17. Rather than the policy expiring after that time, they continued it for another year, withdrawing $49 a month from my Visa card. When I objected they suggested they had some automatic right to continue the policy. We gave no authorization for this policy to continue for another year. This is a company which wants to hide behind the internet. You get letters in reply with no one's name on them ... simply Delta Dental. DO NOT do business with Delta Dental!!
